Our Rights, Our World!

We are the welcome class of the Ludwig-Hoffmann-Grundschule in Berlin. We conducted surveys, recorded reports, and produced our first radio show.

We are the welcome class of the Ludwig-Hoffmann-Grundschule in Berlin. We have not been in Germany for long and are learning more German every day. In our workshop, we created our first radio show and a small school newspaper The Hoffmann Post — and we are really proud of it!

In our show and the school newspaper, we talk about childrens rights and the country Namibia. For this, we did a lot of research, prepared texts, spoke into the microphone, and built a real show together with reports, street interviews, and music.

One part was especially exciting for us: we conducted street interviews. We wanted to find out what adults in Berlin know about Namibia and later also whether they know about children’s rights. That was not easy, because we are still learning German. But we dared to do it, went out with the microphone, and asked questions. And we realized: practice helps, and many people were very friendly!

Then we researched Namibia and learned many new things: about the country, the people, and also about what schools are like there. We also dealt with childrens rights. Children’s rights are like important rules: they protect children and help them live well and safely, no matter where they live in the world.

A real highlight was our video conference with children from Windhoek. We spoke with students from the Holy Cross Convent Primary School and asked them questions about their school and their everyday life in Namibia. It was very exciting because we could hear directly from children in Namibia what their lives are like.

In the end, our first radio show and a school newspaper were created. We hope you enjoy listening and reading them as much as we enjoyed producing them. And we learned: childrens rights are important everywhere, and everyone can help protect them.

Many thanks to the children of the Holy Cross Convent Primary School in Windhoek for the great video conference!
